  • LFW S/S 2012: Acne's Acme

As London Fashion Week slowly fades into the echelons of fashion history, Miss Cochinechine has time to sit back and reflect on both the highs and lows. For Miss C the pinnacle of LFW was almost certainly Acne Spring/Summer 2012 show.

Four flights of stairs up in the derelict Old Sorting Office on New Oxford Street and into the vast concrete space with a seemingly endless mirrored runway and denim-clad male models serving martinis and vodka, the Acne show promised to be nothing if not noteworthy.

Inspired by a recent trip to Marrakech, this show ran the risk of falling into the bounds of platitude. However, this show was anything but ordinary. The collection was oversized and utilitarian, while at the same time remarkably feminine and ornamental. Acne’s signature minimalist look took a sudden exotic turn as desert tones were punctuated with blocks of brighter hues. Oversized capes, wide trousers and billowing jackets were interposed with prom dress silhouettes, star punctured leather pieces and baseball caps. And of course, let’s not forget the leather tasseled loafers, motocross trousers and round framed sunglasses that were all thrown into this eclectic mix.

The result? A show that both defined and epitomized the brand’s exciting cosmopolitan approach to design, against the odds such different elements all came together to create exactly what Creative Director Jonny Johansson intended: a ‘melting pot of cultures, era’s nationalities and influences’.

And, in typical Acne fashion, this all seemed to occur with enviable stylish ease.

We're already counting down the days until the leather tasselled loafers hit the store! - CR
